Company Description

Frore Systems is an industry leader in advanced thermal technologies, driving enhanced performance across data centers, embedded industrial systems, and consumer electronics. The company is renowned for its innovative solutions, including LiquidJet™, a breakthrough cooling technology that significantly increases GPU performance and AirJet®, the world's first solid-state active cooling chip for diverse commercial and edge-AI devices. Frore Systems is headquartered in Silicon Valley, with manufacturing operations based in Taiwan.

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Thermal Engineer with a deep understanding of data center thermal design and cooling technologies to lead the development of next-generation compute platforms using Frore’s LiquidJet and AirJet technologies. You will drive end-to-end thermal architecture across servers and racks, ensuring scalable, energy-efficient, and reliable cooling for high-density workloads, specifically xPUs for AI/ML and HPC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thermal Architecture Leadership: Drive thermal cooling strategies for server and rack designs — including air and liquid cooling — to meet performance, efficiency, and reliability goals using LiquidJet technologies.
  • CFD and System Modeling: Lead airflow and thermal simulations using CFD tools at component, server, and rack levels. Optimize custom cold plate, flow paths, heat sinks, ducting designs.
  • Thermal Validation and Testing: Guide thermal validation plans, including the use of IR thermography, thermocouples, pressure drop measurements, and fan control tuning.
  • Reliability and Margin Analysis: Perform thermal margin analysis and ensure compliance with derating guidelines, component lifetime requirements, and ASHRAE standards.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers, review their designs and analyses, and help scale best practices across the organization.
  • Cross-Functional Integration: Collaborate closely with R&D and manufacturing to ensure high quality thermal modules to customers

Required Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in thermal design of high-power electronics or data center systems.
  • Expertise in CFD tools: Ansys Icepak, Fluent, or equivalent. Topology optimization experience/expertise using cutting-edge tools.
  • Deep understanding of heat transfer and fluid dynamics, including conduction, convection (forced and natural), and multi-phase cooling.
  • Experience with liquid cooling systems: cold plate design, coolant selection, CDU integration, and leak risk mitigation.
  • Strong track record of bringing complex server or data center cooling solutions to production, with thermal domain and delivery ownership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Open Compute Project (OCP) platforms and hyperscale data center designs.
  • Understanding of ASHRAE thermal classes A1–A4 and facility airflow best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with lab validation, test automation, and scripting (Python, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Exposure to AI/HPC workloads and associated high-wattage server designs (e.g., >5 kW per sled).
  • Understanding of topology and inverse optimization techniques, ideally for heat transfer problems.
  • Experience developing AI-assisted CFD models to iterate and explore vast design space pertaining to coldplate design.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong technical communication and ability to present to customers, executive audiences and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional engineering projects.
  • Proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Example Projects You Might Lead:

  • Architecting thermal systems for AI training clusters using liquid cooling with 100kW+ per rack.
  • Development of reduced-order models to optimize coldplate performance specific to customer workloads.

Location:

· Located in the Bay Area or willing to re-locate.

· In-office presence is essential. Hybrid work is not appropriate for this position.

Culture:

Frore Systems is a place where individuals can shine among their peers, learn new ways of solving problems and be challenged to push the envelope. The Thermall Engineer will uphold these values and work to build upon Frore Systems’ humble, empowering, and exciting culture.

Compensation:

· Base salary of $100,000 - $200,000 depending on experience

· Total compensation includes base salary, relocation allowance if applicable, and potential annual bonus and equity award
