1. About the Role

The Cloud & On-Prem Engineer – II is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for designing, operating, monitoring, and optimizing hybrid infrastructure environments across public cloud platforms and on-premises systems. The Engineer will work on contract, this role is expected to independently handle complex operational challenges, contribute to infrastructure reliability and security, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage monitoring and observability solutions using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and enterprise on-prem monitoring platforms.
  • Configure and maintain agents, integrations, dashboards, and alerting mechanisms to collect metrics, logs, and events from cloud and on-prem infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of compute, storage, network, and application services across hybrid environments.
  • Proactively analyze performance data, logs, and trends to identify bottlenecks, optimize resource utilization, and recommend scaling or capacity planning strategies.
  • Support and troubleshoot hybrid infrastructure, including AWS/Azure environments and on-prem virtualized and physical systems.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot cloud-to-on-prem connectivity, including VPNs, private links, routing, and firewall configurations.
  • Lead log analysis and troubleshooting efforts to detect performance issues, system failures, and unauthorized or suspicious activities.
  • Implement and operate security monitoring solutions to detect, analyze, and respond to threats across hybrid environments.
  • Actively participate in incident management, major outage handling, root cause analysis, and post-incident remediation.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve operational runbooks, response plans, and monitoring documentation.
  • Collaborate with IT operations, security, networking, and application teams to improve system observability and operational maturity.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and support knowledge transfer across teams.

3. Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 6–8 years of hands-on experience in infrastructure operations, cloud engineering, or hybrid environments.
  • Strong experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
  • Solid experience supporting on-prem infrastructure, including virtualization, servers, storage, and networking.
  • Deep understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident management practices.
  • Strong system administration skills in Linux and/or Windows environments.
  • Good knowledge of networking fundamentals, including VPC/VNet design, routing, firewalls, VPNs, and private connectivity.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex, cross-platform infrastructure issues.
  • Ready to work on contract.

4. Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and operating enterprise-scale hybrid cloud architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Exposure to security operations, SIEM tools, and compliance-driven environments.
  • Experience with backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and capacity management.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or leading operational initiatives.
